Kevin Hopps

Treasurer

I am 57 years old and have been married to my wife Denise for 32 years, and we have two boys, Devin and Dalton. I was born in Detroit and grew up in Oxford. We purchased a home in Roscommon 10 years ago and established permanent residency three years ago.

I am a graduate of JL Forster Secondary School. I started working for a Steel Recycling Company in Detroit upon graduation for the next 34 years before moving on and starting a small Steel Recycling Broker Company with my wife two years ago. I manage all the financial components of the business including but not limited to: payroll, profit and loss statements (P&L), and state and federal taxes. As an Account Executive at my previous job, I was responsible for buying and selling steel which included calculating margins and creating P&L statements.

I have political experience as president of our Homeowners Association (Oxford) for two years and of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (Lake Orion) and United Steel Workers Local Union (Ontario) for one year, respectively.

I am running for Treasurer of Lyon Twp because, in the last few years, it has become clear that the current board has lost its focus on serving the people. Instead, the current Lyon Township board works more for special interest groups.

The septic mandate has gone way too far. We the People should have a say in how this issue is approached. This expensive mandate will especially hurt those on fixed incomes. I am all for clean water, but it should be discussed by the people to arrive at a reasonable solution.

I truly believe all political positions are to represent the people you were elected by, and I will do my absolute best to do that. We need to get back to having due process in Lyon Twp because I believe this current board will not stop at the septic mandate but push further into other areas of our lives without representation.
